Therapies and Core Issues - SLO Recovery Centers

Therapies and Issues

Creating Individualized Treatments to fit your Needs

SLO Recovery Centers outpatient and residential partial hospitalization treatment programs are focusing on the core issues. Our groups are focusing on primary sobriety drug treatment program. We do not focus on psycho-educational materials, although they are addressed within the context of the group. Group therapy at SLO Recovery Centers, drug addiction rehab uses a variety of modalities such as art therapy, psychodrama, sculpting, and many more.

We create individualized treatment plans that fit each client’s needs. No two people are alike, and their needs must be addressed on an individual basis. Issues addressed within the treatment plan range greatly and can focus on grief and loss, sex and love addiction, compulsive gambling, codependency, low self-esteem, trauma and abuse, etc.

We have an intense family therapy every other month that is experiential in nature. We assure you it is nothing like anything you have experienced before! The healing that takes place changes family’s lives and relationships, as well as providing a forum for both the client and patient to be heard.

We believe in developing a strong, positive relationship with our clients. It is imperative that they trust us, as well as the process involved. We treat each client as if they were our own family. We create an environment in which the client feels safe and loved which enables them to authentically and vulnerably address their issues.

Quality treatment first…Finances second…we have never and will never throw someone out because their insurance runs out. If a person wants to be at SLO Recovery Centers and is willing to do the work, we will find a way to make it happen. Our business is not built on repeat business. We help people get well the first time; thus, if you are seeking alcohol abuse treatments, please contact us for a different way to treat people.

Question: Have you ever wondered how a patient at a treatment facility with poor insurance is able to recover in 14 days, while an individual with good insurance recovers in 60?

Answer: The answer is clear, the vast majority of the industry is concerned with how much your insurance pays, not in providing quality services first.  We do not live on repeat business; you deserve to get well the first time.

patients core issues.

Unaddressed core issues prevent individuals from building a foundation that supports long-term recovery. How do we know this? The statistics from the past 30 plus years of treatment provides all the evidence needed to substantiate this claim. The following are an example of some core issues addressed at  SLO Recovery Centers:

  • Co-Dependency

  • Sexual, Physical, Emotional Abuse
  • Trauma
  • Family of Origin dysfunctional patterns

We address the core issues
through a variety of modalities.

  • CBT- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT is a short-term psychotherapy based on a model specifying psychiatric disorders involving dysfunctional thinking. Dysfunctional thinking/ distorted thinking arises from both biological and psychological influences. CBT modifies dysfunctional thinking and behavior, by allowing the person to look at their thought patterns, which leads to the improvement of symptoms. CBT targets several disorders such as depression, anxiety, OCD, anorexia etc.

  • EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a form of psychotherapy used to treat trauma. The meaning behind the traumatic event is reprocessed on an emotional level. The client will go from feelings of horror and pain to the feeling that the individual is a strong survivor.

  • Inner Child Therapy

Family of origin issues 0-17 years old, are the basis of our behavior as adults. We believe that trauma and abuse (anything that is not nurturing) during the ages of 0-17 must be addressed and corrected or else, this behavior will continue for a lifetime. Inner Child work focuses on getting in touch with the child within each of us, and beginning to build a healthy relationship with him/her. Once this is accomplished, the patterns of repeating and recycling old behaviors will be changed.

  • Experiential Therapy

Rather than “Talk-therapy”, Experiential Therapy is based on actions, movements, psychodrama and various activities and experiences, as is implied by the name. Role-Playing and the use of objects are also common.

  • Medication Management

On staff at SLO Recovery Centers, we have Jason Hanby, PA-C, and Medical Director Timothy Anderson, MD, MPH. Both have extensive experience in treating dual diagnosis treatment populations.

  • Individual Therapy

Each client will be individually assessed on a bio-psycho-social framework where the staff will assist the client in addressing core issues found in their family history or otherwise, and how they could relate to their substance abuse. Clients will have weekly individual therapy sessions during their duration at SLO Recovery Centers.

  • Meditation & Yoga

Exercises such as yoga and meditation allow for each patient to relax and release some stress. Studies have shown that yoga can actually decrease depression, allowing them to become more spiritually centered and healthy. Some addicts have even reported that their sobriety has been strengthened from the practice of daily meditation.

  • Sex & Love Addiction

Along with Substance Use disorders, many of the recovering population struggle with sex and love addiction. These issues are one of the leading causes to relapsing on substances, and must be addressed in order to maintain long term, emotional sobriety. Sex and Love addiction is much more than being obsessed with a specific sexual act, or person. It is a need on a deep level to connect to someone else, or something else to fill the void inside yourself. Healing yourself from these issues will ensure a long, happy, successful and fulfilling life.
